A proxy list, as any user will find out sooner or later, is virtually indispensable. Although that URL you are using may be working now, what happens when it bogs down or cannot handle your request? Thus, the need for these listings. Needless to say there are scores of websites filled with names of servers. And in each you will also see them say that they are the best ones, the only ones that you will ever need. You do not have to go the site actually. Just reading the brief summary on the search engine and you will get the idea. Of course not all of them can be considered the best and certainly not all are reliable. So what makes for a good proxy list? Of course the main criteria would be the reliability of the servers that are displayed on the pages. Connections will not always occur at the speed you may like, but it will be reliable for most of the time. In addition, a good website will also provide you with a list that is constantly refreshed. It does not matter if the top five or top ten remain the same. The important thing is that they are updated. As with everything else on the Net, the servers come and go, so you should get the latest ones as often as possible. Even if you are happy with the link you are using, there may be a better service available there so you should always know and have the latest proxy list. The website also needs to have some other information besides the name and the link. Its type (be it anonymous, high anonymous, open, etc) needs to be specified. This may not be necessary for casual users, although advanced types will look for them. Other important details will be where the server itself is located. This could, sometimes, make it easier to decide what connection to try out. If the location is nearer you, then it might be faster than the one at the top. This is a fact that not all users consider, but it can make a difference. You do not need to know a lot of technical details to use a proxy list. You just have to focus on these bare essentials, and sooner than later the right site will find you (or you will find it). Once you locate them, browsing the Web anonymously will be possible.
